Cleaning a (heavily) dirty shower? Try these simple home remedies!

by Team Techvilly

At the end of a stressful day, a hot shower is an ultimate way to relax completely. But what if the shower doesn’t look fresh and clean at all? Dust, dirt, soap residue, limescale, and even mold can accumulate in the shower over time.

Therefore, a regular bathroom cleaning routine is necessary. Ideally, clean your shower immediately after use, when the surface is still damp from showering and any dirt stains have been softened by steam.

With some simple cleaning tips, you can get a sparkling shower with minimal scrubbing. Also, read our article about hygiene management in the household for a bacteria-free cleaning result.

Clean the shower with dishwasher tabs

Dishwasher tabs are not only great for cleaning dirty dishes. You can also successfully use it to clean the shower. Dishwashing tablets can help remove soap scum and other dirt from brick and glass.

All you need are rubber gloves, a bucket of warm water, and dishwasher tabs.

  1. Dip the tabs in the warm water and let the whole thing dissolve.
  2. Spread the mixture on the walls and on the glass. Let it sink in for a little while.
  3. Time to scrub! Scrub vigorously back and forth. Depending on the condition of the shower, this can take a little time.
  4. Afterward, rinse the area with hot water and repeat the process if necessary.

Descale the shower cubicle with a miracle product: vinegar essence

Not only dishwasher tabs are a great help when professionally cleaning the bathroom. A household staple, vinegar essence has many uses. Whether toothpaste stains in the sink, deposits in the toilet, or water streaks in the shower cubicle. With a little vinegar essence, you can conjure up shiny surfaces and floors in no time at all.

For fresh and streak-free cleanliness you need 1 liter of water and 1 cup of vinegar essence (for the household). Wet the shower stall, especially the faucet and showerhead, with the vinegar mixture and leave for 5 to 10 minutes.

If you prefer, you can put the vinegar mixture in a spray bottle and spray it on the problem areas.

You will see that all dirt and limescale stains can be easily rinsed off afterward. Dry off with a microfiber cloth. The acidity of lemons is also ideal for removing stubborn traces of limescale.

Brown deposits in the shower: is this the beginning of mold?

If brown deposits have become lodged between the tiles in the shower, it is important that you act quickly. Especially with incipient mold. Here, strong chemical cleaning products, such as rubbing alcohol with an alcohol content of more than 70 percent, help.

Is it just dirt, such as B. Soap accumulation? Then household remedies such as vinegar essence or a simple water-soda mixture can help. If the brown deposits are on the grout, then an old toothbrush can be much more helpful than a standard cleaning sponge.

With the fine bristles, we can remove the most stubborn dirt even in inaccessible corners.

Clean the shower drain with a simple trick

To easily clean a shower drain and unclog unpleasant odors and clogs, you only need two simple ingredients: vinegar (5%) and baking soda or baking soda. A mix of the two will eat up mud and dirt at the bottom of your drain in no time.

Sprinkle 4 packets of baking soda in the opening of the drain and follow with half a cup of vinegar. When you hear hissing and foaming, you know there’s a chemical reaction loosening dirt from the pipes. When the reaction has stopped, you should flush the drain with hot water.

Cleaning the gaps in the shower cabin made easy

You can use a bottle brush to clean the spaces between the shower cubicles. Moisten them with a little glass cleaner and clean the gaps. A steam cleaner can also help when cleaning the shower cubicle and the spaces between them.

The steam reaches the spaces between the sliding doors, killing bacteria. This gives you a thorough cleaning without having to disassemble everything.
