The Spiti Valley, a gorgeous haven resounding with peace and spirituality, is home to various Buddhist monasteries and breathtaking natural features, the most of which are unknown and hence unspoiled.

Detailed Itinerary

Delhi – Manali – Rohtang Pass – Kunzum Pass – Losar – Kaza AND Delhi – Shimla – Narkanda – Kinnaur Valley – Tabo – Kaza are the two ways to enter Spiti Valley. As you can see, one can access Spiti Valley from one side of Shimla and leave Spiti Valley from Manali before returning to Delhi, completing the round.

The full Spiti Valley circuit, including Tabo, Kaza, Losar, Chandratal, Kunzum Pass, Ki, Kibber, Pin Valley, Langza, Hikkim, Komic, Dhangkar, is covered in this comprehensive day-by-day Spiti Valley itinerary.

Day 1 | Delhi – Shimla / Narkanda

Among the places to view in Shimla are Famous Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, and Jakhu Temple.

Shimla is roughly 60 KM away, and the trip to Narkanda takes two hours.

Shimla is around an 8-hour journey away.

If it fits your schedule, spend the night in Shimla or Narkanda.

Day 2 | Shimla / Narkanda – Sangla / Chitkul (Kinnaur Valley)

If you’re coming from Shimla, set out early and take in the scenery.

Plan to eat lunch in Rampur.

Beautiful journey through Kinnaur Valley for about 8 to 9 hours.

Nighttime in Sangla.

Day 3 | Sangla – Chitkul – Sangla – Kalpa

Spend some time in the lovely Chitkul Village before leaving early.

Prior to returning to Kalpa, take a trip to Kamru Fort in Sangla.

at Kalpa, over Mount Kinner Kailash, observe the spectacular sunset and dawn the following day.

On this day, I drove for about 4 to 5 hours.

Spend the night in Kalpa.

Day 4 | Kalpa – Nako – Nako Lake – Geyu Mummy – Tabo

Get up early and enjoy the scenery as you travel along the Hindustan-Tibet Highway.

Visit Khab, where the rivers Spiti and Satluj meet.

From Khab Bridge, view Leo Purygal Peak.

Lunch is served at Nako Lake.

Before Nako, encounter the evil Malling Nalla.

After Chango-Sumdo, the Spiti Valley will be reached.

After registering with the Sumdo police, make a diversion to Geyu Village to see the 500-Year-Old Mummy.

Approximately 8 to 9 hours of driving, depending on the pauses you take.

Tabo overnight.

Day 5 | Tabo – Dhankar – Dhankar Lake – Pin Valley (Mud Village)

After visiting Dhankar Lake and the Monastery, depart shortly after lunch.

Enjoy the stunning views. all-day

Through the Pin Valley: Kungri, Sagnam, Mud, and Tailing

Approximately 4 to 5 hours of driving every day

In Pin Valley, spend the night at Mud Village.

Day 6 | Pin Valley – Kaza – Ki – Kibber – Gette – Tashigang – Kaza

Go to Kaza, the Spiti Valley’s administrative centre.

Lunch at Kaza, then register at the hotel

Visit Ki – Kibber – Gette – Tashigang in the afternoon. Ki is a well-known monastery, and the others are locations worth exploring during a romantic drive.

The route terminates near Tashigang, but it is a magnificent journey anyway.

Kaza for the night.

Day 7 | Kaza – Hikkim – Komik – Langza – Kaza / Losar

Today, explore the off-the-beaten-path or unusual locations close to Kaza.

Great view of Chau Chau Kang Nelda peak looking down the valley from Langza Statue of the Buddha

In the Spiti Valley, the Tanggyud monastery near Komik is one of the most significant and tallest monasteries.

If you want to escape Kaza’s bustle, you can relocate to Losar.

Including Losar, it takes about 2 to 3 hours to drive there.

Those who intend to visit Losar should take the most picturesque drive possible between Kaza and Losar while travelling at a leisurely pace.

Depending on the pauses you take, it will take between 2 and 2.5 hours to travel from Losar to Kaza.

Day 8 | Kaza / Losar – Kunzum Pass – Chandratal / Battal

By way of Kunzum Pass, travel to Chandratal and spend the day there.

The closest campsites to the lake are around 2.5 kilometres away; alternatively, go back to Battal, where a PWD rest house is still present but without power. Unless you wish to remain in the guest house with electricity, there is no use in doing the difficult trip back to Losar across Kunzum Pass. Save time and energy for the following day by staying the night at Battal.

Minimum driving time: 4–5 hours

Chandratal or Battal Camps for the night.

Day 9 | Chandratal – Kunzum Pass – Rohtang Pass – Manali

Drive through Battal, Chattru, and Gramphu to reach Rohtang Pass is incredible. It will take you back to Manali.

Approximately 7 to 8 hours of driving, if nothing goes wrong. Pass Rohtang

Nighttime in Manali.

Day 10 | Manali – Delhi

Take the overnight Volvo, which departs at 5.30 PM, and visit Manali if you have time.

Local attractions in Manali include Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Old Manali, and Vashisth Hot Water Springs (which I never found intriguing).

depending on the stops you make in between, a 12- to 14-hour journey

to the house.

Day 11-12 | Buffer Days

Days to be reserved as backups in case of road closures brought on by landslides or snow, or just because you want to extend your trip.

Add-On Days for Spiti Tour

If you have additional days available, you may perhaps use any of them to explore the Spiti Valley’s other stunning locations.

Spend one day discovering more of the Kinnaur Valley; perhaps after Shimla, stay at Sarahan before travelling to Sangla or at Chitkul/Sangla.

Spend a day exploring the Lingti Valley, which contains the Demul and Lallung Valleys, and the Rama Valley.

In the Spiti Valley, spend a day exploring Mane Village.
