How to Check Provident Fund Balance With or Without a UAN?

by Uneeb Khan

Employee Provident Fund means the monthly monetary contribution that employers and employees make in the disguise of salary deductions at a certain rate. The EPF is a savings tool and a government-established savings scheme for working professionals. The Employees Provident Fund Organisation, a statutory establishment under the Employees’ Provident Fund Act of 1956, announces the Employee Provident Fund scheme rate yearly.

The statutory establishment of the Employee Provident Fund aids working professionals in checking the EPF balance through various ways, such as via an online portal, short message service, missed calls and UMANG application. You also have the option to go through the EPF balance check procedure using UAN.

Employee Provident Fund

At the beginning of each financial year, one financial step that every working professional takes is their provident balance. Each month, employers and employees contribute 12% of their salary to the provident fund account. The Provident Fund concept gives retirement perks to working professionals because they can withdraw the provident fund amount whenever they want to manage their life after retirement.

When you join and start working for a company, your organisation will generate an Employee Provident Fund account on your behalf. Moreover, after establishing an Employee Provident Fund Account, a UAN number is allotted with an EPF Member Passbook. UAN is the acronym for Universal Account Number.

Check EPF Balance With or Without Universal Account Number

There are five ways to go through the EPF balance check procedure with or without Universal Account Number.

To check the EPF balance through the EPFO website, follow these steps.

  • Sign in to the EPFO website and click the EPF Member Passbook option under the employee section.
  • When you are signed in using your Universal Account Number and password, you can see your EPF Member Passbook.
  • Your EPF Member Passbook will display your break-up of the Ejection Fraction contribution in addition to the opening and closing balance.
  • You can also check the gained interest and any amount transferred to the Provident Fund account.
  • If you have multiple PF accounts connected to your Universal Account Number, each one will appear on the screen.
  • You should click on the definite identification number to see the balance of that Provident Fund account.

EPF Balance Check on the UMANG Application

Another way to check the EPF balance is to download the Unified Mobile Application for New Age Governance. It will allow you to access the Employment Provident Fund details, such as Provident Fund balance, KYC status, and claim status.

EPF Balance Check Through SMS

To check EPF balance through the short message service, you must type ‘EPFOHO UAN’ and send an SMS to 7738299899. Before sending the SMS, ensure you use your registered mobile number to send the SMS. After sending the SMS, you can view the latest Provident Fund contribution balance information.

EPF Balance Check Through Missed Calls

To check your EPF balance through missed calls, you can use Employee Provident Fund Organisation’s missed call service. You have to give a missed call to the number 011-22901406 from your contact number registered with the statutory establishment. Your call will get disconnected after ringing twice, and you will receive a message showing your PF balance. The missed call service the statutory establishment provides is also available for users who do not have a smartphone, and users can use the service for free.

Conclusion

The Employee Provident Fund can be a significant income source after retirement. Knowing your Universal Account Number makes it effortless to access your Employment Provident Fund Balance and withdraw the amount if an emergency arises. Even if you do not remember your Universal Account Number, you can still check your EPF Member Passbook by following the above procedures.
