High-altitude treks offer spectacular views of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. While there are many hilly regions around the globe with similar features to the Indian Himalayan Region, most trekkers find comfort here.

The Indian Himalayan region, which boasts a stunning array of snow-capped glaciated peaks, vibrant peoples, and cultures, is nature at its best. It offers a wide range of high-altitude trekking routes. Some even reach 5960m.

Chadar Trekking in Ladakh

It is both a popular high-altitude trek and a popular winter trek. Why is it called Chadar, though? It is a particular place? Its name derives from the fact the river is a blanket during winter (which in Hindi means Chadar) and that you have to trek through it. It is still about -20 degrees Celsius, which adds to the thrill. This is so interesting! The trek starts in Chilling village, then proceeds to Zaribago and Deepyokma. Nyarak Village, Nyarakpulu and Nyarakpulu are the next stops. Finally, it ends at Lingshed, which is a small village. Trek from Lingshed via Nyarakpulu to Tso Mopoaldar, and then via Tilatdo to Chilling.

Darcha-Padum Trek in Ladakh

Darcha Padum Trek is unique in that it is difficult but adventurers persevere despite the many cuts and slits. The views are stunning. If you choose this trek, you will be able to visit Lahaul and all three major regions in Ladakh. Can you see why it is so hard? The trek involves walking up hills, traversing beautiful valleys, high glaciers and crossing rivers. You will trek from Lahaul valley’s Darcha to Padum. It will pass through Palamo and Zanskar Sumdo as well as Chuminakpo (Lakong), Purne, Ichar, and Chuminakpo.

Time: 14-15 Days

Uttarakhand: Kalindikhal Trek

The Kalindikhal Trek is another difficult trek in Garhwal mountains. You will be able to trek from Gangotri to the most popular attractions of the region: Tapovan (4250m), Nandanvan (4500m), Vasuki Tal (5300m), Kalindi). This adventure involves everything, from boulder climbing to traversing rivers to trudging through snow glaciers. It is unique in that you will be traversing half of Garhwal, including the Bhagirathi River valley and the Alaknanda river valley.

Durable: 18 Days

Annapurna Base Camp

Another name for the Annapurna Base Camp trek is the ABC Trek. Because of its international popularity, the trek draws trekkers from all parts of the globe. Six days of trekking will take you to a peak elevation of 13,549 feet. The Annapurna Basecamp trek trail is breathtaking. The Annapurna Sanctuary is home to some of nature’s most beautiful flora & fauna. From the base camp, you can see the Annapurna Massif almost in full view. The views of Annapurna South, Machapuchare, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare are stunning. This trek is moderately strenuous.

Time: 8-9 days

Trek to Shivling Base Camp, Uttarakhand

Shivling Base Camp Trek requires perseverance and a lot of skill. It is considered one of the Garhwal Himalayas most spiritual treks. It was found by the Tibetan Border Police in 1974 and is still very popular with trekkers today. You will see Mt. Meru (6,400 meters). You will also find many holy sites in Uttarakhand like Gangotri, Gaumukh and Vasuki Tal.

The elevation: 5263 meters above the sea level (17263 feet).

Duration: 15 Days

Uttarakhand’s Auden’s Col Trek

John Bicknell Auden, a British Geographical Survey officer, discovered Auden’s Col Trek in 1935. It is one of the most challenging treks in Garhwal mountains. This is how the adventure was named. It is known for crossing the 6,580 meter north-west Ridge of Gangotri III and the 6465 meter east ridge Of Join I. The trek starts in Gangotri, and continues to Nala Camp and Rudugaira Base Camp. Basecamp Gangotri Group and Auden Col Base Camp are also included. Chowki and Masar Tal, Vasuki Tal, Kedarnath, Khatling Glacier, Waterfall Camp and Chowki will all be included. It will include stops at Khatling Glacier and Waterfall Camp, Chowki Masar Tal, Vasuki Tal. Kedarnath Gaurikund, Rudraprayag and Rishikesh.

The elevation: 5490m (18011.81ft).

Durable: 18 Days
